As we regularly come into contact with animal waste whilst outdoors we have always used hand sanitiser. Due to the sudden shortage of hand sanitiser in shops and supermarkets, we began making our own.
We use full strength laboratory grade isopropanol alcohol and pure aloe vera, in a ratio of 3:1 resulting in a final alcohol content of 75%. We then add a few drops of pure tea tree oil to enhance the antibacterial properties. This conforms to Formulation 2 of the World Health Organisation guidelines for formulation of hand sanitisers that combat coronavirus. As allowed by the W.H.O. guidelines this formulation uses aloe vera rather than glycerol, and tea tree oil rather than hydrogen peroxide for a more natural, hypoallergenic, "sensitive skin" sanitiser.
As per W.H.O. guidelines we do not add gelling agents so this formulation is in a liquid format. Once applied the sanitiser has a refreshing non-stick feel which leaves hands feeling soft and moisturised.
